Schwartzman Leads Argentinian Quartet into Buenos Aires Quarterfinals

With his 7-6(2), 7-6(4) triumph over Jaume Munar in the Argentina Open quarterfinals on Thursday, Diego Schwartzman completed a quartet of Argentinians.

Schwartzman advances to 15-6 in his hometown tournament career and 6-3 in the 2022 season.

The 29-year-old World No.15, who won the title in Buenos Aires in 2021 by defeating Francisco Cerundolo, will face Cerundolo again on Friday.

Cerundolo, a 23-year-old qualifier who reached the final last year after winning seven matches in qualifying, defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 on Thursday.

On Thursday, Fabio Fognini (6-4, 7-6(5)) and Federico Delbonis (6-4, 6-4) both advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating Pedro Martinez and Pablo Andujar, respectively.

The four largest seeds are still in contention: No. 1 Casper Ruud, No. 2 Schwartzman, No. 3 Lorenzo Sonego, and No. 4 Fognini. That’s how the quarters will play out.
